Open Arms
Open Arms exists for one simple reason: to feed people living with and affected by chronic illness. Our current service is available to those who deal with the difficulties of an HIV/AIDS, MS, ALS or breast cancer diagnoses. Food is a basic human need. Providing nutritious meals for people living with illness improves the quality of their lives by allowing them to have more energy and to be more productive. At one time or another, most of us have appreciated a meal prepared by a friend or relative when we weren't feeling well. That is the essence of what we do at Open Arms. At Open Arms we prepare and deliver meals to people who don't feel well and who don't have the energy or resources to care for themselves without assistance.
One major challenge facing AIDS organizations is the perception that things are better for everyone living with HIV/AIDS today than in the past. However, this simply isn't true. At Open Arms the demand for our services is increasing as interest and support for AIDS seem to be diminishing. In 2006, we prepared and delivered a staggering 138,627 meals to people living with HIV/AIDS and to our expanded clients who live with MS, ALS and breast cancer.
Please join in our efforts to ensure that this service continues for as long as there is a need. And there is still a need.
